Welling United are pleased to confirm the appointment of Olly Groome as Head of Media & Communications.

Olly arrives at Park View Road with a wealth of experience having spent 10 seasons at Charlton Athletic in roles as Club Journalist and Content Manager and will oversee all aspects of the club’s media and communications strategy.

Wings Chairman, Paul Whitehead said: “Getting Olly on board is a massive coup for a club of our size – a real marquee signing.

“One of our main aims at the start of the season was to improve communication between the club and the fans and we were also determined to expand our reach and numbers in terms of social media engagement. You have only got to look at the stats to see the impact he’s made already and we’re very pleased to have him on board.”

Olly added: “I’m very excited to undertake this opportunity with Welling United and I’m very grateful for the faith that has been shown in me by the owners of the club.

“The project here is an extremely exciting one and I’m looking forward to being a part of it and playing my part in helping to move this club forward.

“Hopefully, supporters will have already noticed an improvement in terms of media output in recent months, with Michael Brown laying some good foundations in the summer, and the goal is for us to work together and continue to grow and make further improvements, working with all aspects of the club and the local community to help spread the name of Welling United and, ultimately, encourage more fans through the gates.”

Olly graduated from the University of Arts, London with a degree in journalism and also has previous experience working in local news media with the News Shopper.

He has spent the last three months working with the club on a consultancy basis with his new role officially commencing on December 1st.

It is the first time Welling United has appointed a dedicated, full-time member of staff in such a role and is another step towards professionalising the club as it moves towards its long-term goals and ambitions.
