Welling United 4-0 Hampton & Richmond Borough

Welling finished off the regular season with a four nil victory against Hampton & Richmond at PVR on Saturday.

From the first attack Danny Mills’ came close with a header from a Brendan Kiernan cross that was saved by Former Wings loanee Tom Lovelock.

However The Wings went ahead in the 3rd minute, Jack Jebb making his first appearance since a serious knee injury back in October poked the ball to Gavin McCallum, who made some space for the shot before firing past Lovelock.

Brendan Kiernan then went close as he just shot wide. Mohamed Bettamer then brought a save out of Tom Lovelock that he did well with.

Welling continued to surge forward as Mills found Bettamer but he chipped just over.

Hampton struggled to get into the game but finally recorded a few efforts as Craig Dundas hit and effort over before Ryan Hill hit a free kick over the bar and out of the ground. Shortly after this Welling doubled their lead. A long ball out from Dan Wilks was met by Mills to Kiernan who fended off his marker before smashing the ball into the corner past Lovelock.

Wilks had to be on top form denying Ruel Sotiriou. Bettamer then saw his shot turned around the post by Lovelock.

To Hampton’s credit they started the second half brightly. Anthony Acheampong clearing a dangerous corner off of the line before Casey MacLaren hit the outside of the post.

Sotiriou had another shot which Wilks saved well.

Back came Welling as Bettamer hit a free kick that Lovelock saved at the 2nd attempt.

Welling brought on Nassim L’Ghoul and he injected a bit of pace into the game.

Welling added a third when McCallum played a great defence splitting ball through to Bettamer who took a touch before calmly slotting past Lovelock.

It was soon four when McCallum hit an effort that took a big deflection off of Rian Bray wrong footing Lovelock and went in.

L’Ghoul almost added a 5th but his volley from an Audel header was saved by the feet of Lovelock.

Wilks then had to make the best save of the game denying Zak Joseph from close range as he beat away his effort.

Hampton were losing their discipline as Harry Crawford hacked down L’Ghoul and was awarded a yellow card. L’Ghoul then shot wide late on as he impressed in his cameo appearance.

Welling finished the regular season with a win and now face the massive Play off Semi Final game against Chelmsford City next Sunday at Park View Road. Kick off 3pm.
