Welling United 1-0 Chippenham Town

Welling United gained another three points with victory at home to Chippenham Town. Despite being far from their very best Bradley Quinton’s men found a way to secure the win.

Rob Swaine returned to the side and produced a performance that belied an absence of 6 weeks as he replaced the injured Romoney Crichlow-Noble

Chippenham who like Welling had been in form started well Chris Zebroski firing wide almost immediately after Welling lost possession from the kick off.

Nat Jarvis then went close for Chippenham before Welling started to come into the game.

Bradley Goldberg did well to shrug off two challenges before firing an effort that Will Puddy did well to save.

Akinyemi saw an effort blocked by the impressive Curtis McDonald

Cameron James curled just wide from range as Welling tried to get on top.

Jarvis then missed a great chance for the away side pulling an effort just wide of the post.

Twine flashed an effort just wide with Wilks beaten.

With the game looking to be heading into the break goalless, Welling took the lead. Nathan Green’s cross into the box found its way to Akinyemi who showed great composure to stab the ball under the body of Puddy and into the net.

Chippenham almost replied straight after having won a free kick just outside the area. Twine hit a fierce free kick just over.

Chippenham again started the 2nd half brightly Jarvis with a chance but he fired wide.

Rhys Tyler then forced Wilks into a low shot save.

Zebroski got behind the Wings defence and bared down on goal but dragged his shot wide as the away side wasted another good opportunity.

A great pass from sub Montel Agyemang played in Anthony Cook but his effort was beaten away by Puddy at the near post.

Russe then hit a wild shot over for the away side before Ageymang nearly capped a fine substitute appearance with a goal but Puddy saved his fierce drive well. Welling saw out the 6 minutes of additional time when only 4 minutes were shown to record the win.

Welling are again at home next Saturday with Havant and Waterlooville the visitors.
