Welling United 0-1 Hampton & Richmond Borough
It was a miserable day both on and off the pitch for Wings fans as Welling’s recent rejuvenated form came crashing down with a lifeless display against Hampton and Richmond.
The Wings as they have done so often this season started well, Anthony Cook directing a free kick himself into the wall. Adam Coombes then slid in Cook but Daniel Lincoln made a smart save.
Welling were on top and Bradley Goldberg saw a shot tipped over.
Danny Waldren wriggled free from his marker to head over a Cook corner before Hampton finally tested Wilks with Jake Gray shooting straight at Dan Wilks.
On the stroke of half time Coombes was brought down by Charles Wassemer but he fired free kick wide before Waldren then fired over from range as the half time whistle went.
With the Wings now attacking the Road End hopes of a 2nd half breakthrough were dashed. Wassemer hit the bar for the away side when heading a Donaldson throw ah isn’t the bar.
With game being played in awful conditions, chances for both sides were at a real premium and the game looked to be tailing off for a goalless draw until Luke Ruddick lost his marker from a corner and headed home unmarked with 12 minutes to go.
Welling now tried everything to get back in the game but both Green and Jack Jebb saw efforts go wide.
Josh Oyinsan headed wide in injury time as Hampton held on to claim the three points. Welling now move on to the FA Cup encounter with Eastleigh next Saturday at PVR kick off 3pm.
Welling United: Wilks, Dymond (Agyemang 85), Anderson, Widdrington (Jebb 74), Swaine, Okosieme, Cook, Waldren, Goldberg, Coombes (Oyinsan 74), Green.
