Warren Feeney is expecting a good cup tie when Welling United meet Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

The two sides played out an exciting 2-2 draw at Park View Road in the league in September and the Wings boss is hoping for a similar spectacle in the knockout fixture this weekend.

“It’s a great cup tie,” said Feeney.

“Paul [Doswell] and Bairdy [Ian Baird] have got a fantastic team. They’re fantastic people and they’re a team in this league that I really like.

“They’ve got good players, are very respectful and they’re there on merit because they’re a good club with good people. It’ll be a tough game for us, but one that we’ve got to go and enjoy.

“We had a great game for the neutral in the league at home [in September] and hopefully we’ll get a good game like that again. We want to win and get into the next round, as will they, but we need to be confident.”

Meanwhile, Feeney insists that all form goes out of the window in cup competitions as he prepares for the visit of the high-flying Hawks.

“People will look at where they are and where we are, but it’s what happens on the day, so all form goes out of the window,” he explained.

“We have to go and enjoy it. The bread and butter is the league, but we want to get into the next round – it’s a good cup competition and is more or less the non-League FA Cup, so it’s one that we’ll be treating with the utmost respect.”
