Welling United’s U23s have been enjoying life in their inaugural season with just one league defeat from their seven games, so far.

After a narrow defeat at Bromley in their very first game in the Suburban Football League, Reece Parara’s side have gone from strength-to-strength, picking up three wins and three draws to remain unbeaten since opening day.

“We’ve worked really hard to recruit the best young talent and it’s been showing on the pitch,” said U23s boss Parara.

“We’re usually the youngest team on the pitch, whoever we play against. In the last game against St Albans, we finished the game with five 16-year olds against men, so we’re really proud of those youngsters – it bodes well for the future.

“We’re doing really well,” he added.

“We’ve only lost one game and are in the top four so it’s been a really good experience and we want to build on that.”

Meanwhile, the bulk of the Welling side which beat Cray Valley Paper Mills in the London Senior Cup was also made up of academy players, giving more valuable experience of senior football for the club’s youngsters with striker Tom Osel scoring the winner.

Following the postponement of the last league fixture against Aldershot on October 22nd, the young Wings will return to action with a home game against Woking on Saturday, November 4th.
