NEWS | Penalty shootout heartbreak as Wings exit cup

It proved to be third time unlucky as Welling fell at the final hurdle in the Kent Senior Cup, losing the semi final on penalties to Dartford at Park View Road (26/04/2022).

The Wings, who beat Herne Bay and Tonbridge Angels from 12 yards to reach this stage, fielded four academy players and had the brighter start in the first half.

A brace from Henry Burnett saw the Wings lead 2-0 at the break.

But Dartford fought back and a Jordan Greenidge strike around 20 minutes from full time, followed by a Jake Robinson penalty deep into injury time saw the Wings pegged back to 2-2 for the second successive home game. It was also the third 2-2 draw in a row for Welling in the Kent Senior Cup.

It was Tom Derry who had the decisive fourth penalty saved, before the visitors scored their fifth to round off a 5-3 victory and progress to the final.

We travel to Hungerford Town on Saturday 30th April and our final home game of the 2021/22 season against Maidstone United takes place on Monday 2nd May. Both games kick off at 3pm and Maidstone tickets are on sale here.

Hear from your Wings Man of the Match against Dartford, 18-year-old Academy graduate, Cameron Andrews as he spoke to Wings TV.
