NEWS | Wings rescue point at Eastbourne in memorable comeback

It was certainly a Good Friday to remember as Welling United earned a point on the Sussex coast, coming from three goals down to draw 3-3.

On the back of a penalty shootout win at home to Tonbridge Angels on Tuesday night (12/04/2022), the Wings were hoping to carry that momentum into the battle to beat the drop from the Vanarama National League South.

But we got off to a disastrous start with two goals from Eastbourne’s Kendall and one from Dickenson saw our hosts three to the good in the space of 11 first half minutes.

It was a much improved performance after the break for the Wings as Dipo Akinyemi’s back heeled attempt got one goal back.

Brad Stevenson’s deflected effort further reduced the arrears six minutes from full time and there was jubilation amongst the travelling Wings support as Akinyemi pulled us level moments later.

The result lifts us off the bottom of the table thanks to Dartford’s win over Billericay and we are back in action at home to Dorking Wanderers on Easter Monday (18/04/2022), kick off at 3pm.
