MATCH PREVIEW | Worthing v Welling United

Welling United hit the road on Saturday with a trip to Worthing, in search of a third win on the bounce.

The Wings enjoyed a fruitful festive period, gaining the maximum six points from their home and away encounters with Tonbridge Angels on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and Warren Feeney will be looking for more of the same from his in-form side.

Welling come into the game in 12th position in Vanarama National League South with eight wins, eight draws and seven defeats to their name, with 32 points.

Feeney’s men will be without forward Stefan Payne who missed last weekend’s win over Tonbridge Angels with illness, but will now begin a two-match suspension following an accumulation of 10 yellow cards.

THE OPPOSITION
Worthing are enjoying their first season in the sixth tier of English football following promotion last term.

The Rebels currently occupy a play-off position in sixth place having earned 10 wins and 10 draws from their 25 games, suffering just five defeats.

Their last five league outings have seen them pick up just one victory, however, losing twice and drawing their last two fixtures.

Meanwhile, prior to their victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough on Boxing Day, Worthing had lost each of their previous three home games.

PRE-MATCH CHAT
Warren Feeney: “We’ve obviously got a bit of confidence, but we won’t get carried away. Worthing are a very good team, they’ve got a good core from last year when they had a fantastic season so we’ll go there full of respect knowing that it will be a tough, tough game.”
