Welling United are delighted to confirm the arrival of versatile full-back Avan Jones on an initial 28-day loan from Luton Town.

The 21-year old joined the Hatters’ academy in 2009 and worked his way up through the youth ranks, impressing for the Development Squad prior to embarking on a successful loan spell with St Albans City last season, where he played 18 games before being recalled to the first-team squad.

The youngster was part of a number of Luton’s senior matchday squads towards the end of the 2021/22 season, including the play-off semi-final trip to Huddersfield Town, but is still waiting for his first-team bow.

Speaking of his latest signing, Wings boss Warren Feeney said: “He can play right-back, left-back and in midfield. He’s athletic and comes highly-recommended.

“It’s great for us as a club to deal with the likes of Luton and he’s a great addition to our squad.”

Meanwhile, Jones added: “It feels very good to be here. I feel, at my age, I just need to be playing football and Welling is the right place for me to play and achieve my goals.

“I want to get as many minutes as we can and help the team as much as I can.”

Jones trained with his new teammates for the first time on Thursday morning and is eligible to make his Wings debut on Boxing Day at Tonbridge Angels.
