Welling rescued a point with a late Danny Mills effort after they finally broke down a resolute Wealdstone who came with a game plan and almost left with all three points.

Injuries have really effected The Wings this season and Jordan Gibbons was the latest player to pick up an injury on Tuesday with Caden Genovesi brought in on loan from QPR to replace him.

Early goals have been the order of the day for Welling at home lately and they almost got one in the 5th minute Matt Paterson was inches from stabbing the ball into the goal but he failed to get enough purchase on the ball and Wealdstone keeper North gathered.

After this Wealdstone came into the game and their physical approach to the encounter was helping them to create chances Connor Stevens heading over a Joe Payne cross.

Wealdstone were looking to launch the ball into the box at every opportunity and in the 21st minute, it paid dividends. A long throw into the Welling area was only half cleared to Connor Stevens who was given the freedom to half volley his effort past Wilks.

This goal rocked Welling and it was Wealdstone who looked the more likely to go further ahead. David Pratt picked out Sheppard but his effort went just wide.

Pratt then should have done better being played in but he blazed over when well placed. Welling had an opportunity when L’Ghoul drilled in a cross but Matt Paterson could only poke the ball over.

Welling then lost the ball cheaply and this allowed Bradley Hudson-Odoi to break at pace down the left he found Bradley Bubb, but he put his effort into the side netting.

Wealdstone then lost the goalscorer Stevens to a nasty head injury and he was replaced as a frustrating half came to an end for Welling.

Welling needed to raise the tempo and they did in the 2nd half. Within minutes of the restart The Wings had the ball in the net. Keeper Jonathan North claimed a cross but then subsequently dropped the ball against Paterson. Bradley Goldberg touched the loose ball home but the referee somehow gave a foul against the keeper.

The Wings then had a let off when a misplaced clearance from Kiernan found Pratt who struck a superb volley but Dan Wilks tipped superbly over the bar.

The Wings were huffing and puffing but failing to break down a stubborn Wealdstone defence.

Mills who came on for the injured Goldberg glancing a header from a cross from Kiernan just wide.

Kiernan then had a great chance meeting an Agyemang corner unmarked but he misjudged the flight of the ball and could only knee the ball over.

However with 90 minutes played The Wings got the equaliser. Agyemang showed great skill to control a headed clearance he then beat two men before delivering a low cross into the box that finally split the Wealdstone defence and Mills was on hand to poke past North.

With 4 minutes of injury time played, Welling couldn’t find the winner and settled for a point which keeps them 2nd in the table.

Welling now have a two week break due to Woking’s involvment in the FA Cup. The Wings next play on Saturday 17th November when Weston Super Mare visit PVR.
