Welling succumbed to just their 2nd home defeat of the season against a street wise Concord Rangers who in the process leap frogged them in the table.

Concord scored what turned out to be the winning goal in the very first minute. Danny Green whipped a free kick towards goal, Dan Wilks could only parry the goal-bound effort back into play and Tyrone Sterling was on hand to head the loose ball into an empty net.

This goal changed the complex of the game and played right into the hands of Concord.

The Wings shell shocked by the goal could not get going and Danny Green went close again, before whipping in a dangerous corner that Midson connected with but Wilks saved on the goal line.

L’Ghoul had an audacious effort from range saved, before Concord saw Fraser Shaw go close.

As the game approached half time, Goldberg was hacked down on the edge of the area. Nassim L’Ghoul took the free kick and brought a good save out of Beasant.

Into the 2nd half and Concord set their stall out to frustrate and nullify The Wings attacks by any means possible. To the away sides credit they did have the odd moment to add to there tally as well.

In the 51st minute, Concord countered quickly after a Wings attack broke down, the ball was played to Gillingham loanee Liam Nash who smashed the ball against the bar. Welling looked to come back into the game and L’Ghoul dragged a shot wide from range. Thierry Audel got on the end of a free kick from L’Ghoul but his header went wide.

Just on the hour mark Welling hit the bar, L’Ghoul hitting a thunderbolt that took a deflection which took it onto the bar and was cleared. Welling continued to come at Concord, L’Ghoul almost catching out Beasant with a clever free kick but the keeper tipped the ball away.

Concord were looking rattled and looked to take the sting out of the game at every opportunity with time wasting at the heart of this. It worked though, as The Wings infuriated by this allowed their play to become ragged and a lot of the play went long ball which big centre back Lee Minshull was able to head away at every chance. With three minutes remaining a clever chip into the area found Kiernan but he couldn’t connect properly with his header as Beasant clawed away the effort.

So it was Concord who held on for the win as they celebrated moving 3rd in the table rather exuberantly at the final whistle.
