After a respectable 4 points from their opening two games, Welling were brought crashing back down to earth by Bath City who recorded a resounding victory at Park View Road.
It was the away side who started brightly and Adam Mann’s found Tyler Harvey at the far post but his header went over the bar. However in the 9th minute Bath City did break the deadlock. A Bath corner was flicked on at the near post by Joe Raynes which was met by Hartridge who nipped in at the back post to nod home.
Welling almost equalised in the 16th minute Luke Rooney delivered a dangerous free kick into the box that was met by Adam Coombes but his header was tipped onto the bar by Pardington.
It proved a vital save as Bath increased their lead in the 22nd minute. Luke Rooney lost possession in the midfield allowing Andy Watkins to burst forward, trying to make amends Rooney lunged in with a tackle that tripped Watkins and a penalty was awarded. Tyler Harvey sent Wilks the wrong way.
It nearly went from bad to worse on the half hour Connor Riley-Lowe delivered a far post cross but Tyler Harvey was just unable to keep his header down.
However in the 43rd minute Bath City grabbed a third to effectively put the game beyond Welling before half time.
Raynes and Mann combined on the left wing before playing a through ball to Harvey. The former Truro man played the back to Richards who hit an effort beyond Wilks.
No doubt with more than just a flea in the ear The Wings made a double substitution at half time as they tried to improve. However it was still Bath who looked the more threatening as Richards tried an effort from 25 yards but his effort went just over.
Ming got forward and crossed for 2nd half Sub Josh Oyinsan but his header was comfortably saved.
Richards then produced an effort which was parried by Wilks, but Tyler Harvey saw his follow up effort blocked.
Cosgrave forced his way though the Bath defence but he fired wide.
By this point Bath were now happy to sit back and allow Welling much of the ball, with just two minutes remaining Rooney saw a shot blocked and with Cosgrave looking to follow the rebound up his goal bound effort was bravely blocked as Bath City saw out the 4 minutes added on with ease.
It was a disappointing day for Welling but they now travel to Billericay Town on Tuesday night looking for a response.
