Welling succumbed to yet another away defeat this time at the hands of a rejuvenated Billericay Town. The Wings competed for long spells in the game but the home side with an impressive looking forward line had to much clinical prowess for a Welling side that again looked lacking in the final third.
The Wings started brightly and a deep cross from Braham-Barrett evaded everyone but just failed to dip under the cross bar and landed on the roof of the net. A deep corner from Kiernan from met by Josh Hill but his header went wide at the back post.
The home side littered with former Welling players slowly got into stride and Danny Waldren headed a corner just wide when well placed. Cadogen then hit an effort that was deflected into the side netting.
Adam Coombes hit a 25 yard trademark thunderbolt free kick that Wilks did well to parry away, the rebound fell to Wassamer but he smashed his effort over. The Wings rode out the spell of pressure and looked to hit the home side on the break. Kiernan led the break away, with a three on two scenario with Kiernan about to slip the ball into Anau, Moses Emmanuel, crudely took down Kiernan to stop the move. A yellow card brandished.
With half time approaching Welling were having a good passage of play and a long ball found its way into Danny Mills but a superb last ditch tackle from Wassamer prevented Mills getting his effort away.
Having finished the half positively, this was positive start was wiped away within just 4 minutes of the restart.
A low ball into the area found Cadogan and he was given time and space to turn and hit a low effort past Wilks. It was this type predatory instinct that was vitally lacking from The Wings own play.
Bradley Goldberg took a swipe with a long range effort that went harmless wide as Welling were now required to chase the game.
But any hopes they had vanished on the hour mark as Adam Coombes doubled the home side lead. The former Wings marksman heading home from close range.
Welling looked rattled and almost conceded a third. Charlie Wassamer heading against the bar as the loose ball was hacked away to safety.
Welling had a great chance to get back into the game as they caught Billericay on the break but Kiernan blazed over when well placed as again Welling lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.
Kiernan forced Julien into a fine save with a header from a free kick as Welling continued to huff and puff. The home side should have wrapped up the points with ten minutes to go a flowing move saw the ball squared to Sam Derring but he somehow side footed the ball over the bar from close range.
Welling almost grabbed a consolation goal in added on time but Danny Mills brought a fine stop out of Julien from close range. The home side running out worthy winners against a valiant but otherwise goal shy Wings side.
