Welling United made it three unbeaten with a point at home to Billericay Town who themselves have gone three games unbeaten.
On another night it may have been the full three points for The Wings, but a penalty 8 minutes from time denied them the points.
Welling on the back of their first win of the season started well, Lyle Della-Verde saw a shot blocked before new Brighton loanee Matt Everitt forced Dion-Curtis Henry into a great save.
They had an even better chance when Liburd looked set to tap home but Curtis-Henry grabbed the ball on the goal line.
Despite their good start Welling fell behind, Kyle Reid produced a piece of individual magic, dancing his way through the Welling defence before curling into the bottom corner.
But Welling came back storngly as Anthony Cook looked to be tripped in the box, but his appeals were waved away. Welling looked to have equalised shortly after when Nathan Green’s header hit the underside of the bar but despite looking like it may have gone over the line, the ball was adjudged to have not gone. Welling continued to pour forward and Della-Verde had shot tipped before Cook volleyed over after a corner came back out to him. Cook then curled a free kick just wide, before the turning point of the half. The away side caught Welling on the break as Luke Wanadio was played in, with just R. Cook to beat the Wings stopper made a stunning double save, it proved to be a pivotal moment in the half, as Welling went up the other end and won an immediate penalty.
Cook was tripped by Billy Knott’s tackle from behind and this time the referee did point to the spot. Cook took it himself and sent Henry the wrong way.
The energetic Everitt went on a good run as slipped Rowan Liburd through but his shot was blocked. to
Three minutes into the second half Welling went ahead. Lewis Hobbs heading a Della-Verde free kick across the face of goal for Liburd to powerfully head into the roof of the net.
Everitt then shot over when well placed with the ball taking a nasty bobble as he went to shoot.
Della-Verde was inches from increasing the lead as his effort was deflected the just wide as Welling continued to dominate.
However Billericay weathered the storm and came more into the game. Jake Robinson beat the offside trap and with the goal at his mercy dragged his shot just wide. But with 8 minutes to go, the away side were awarded a penalty, with Robinson being brought down. Robinson taking the penalty and expertly striking the ball into the roof of the net despite R. Cook going the right way.
The Wings return to PVR as they face a tough home fixture against Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.
