Eastbourne Borough 2-1 Welling United

Welling slipped to defeat at a windy Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

This week Manager Bradley Quinton introduced several new loan players as he looks to kick start the season after a stop start opening few weeks.

Eastbourne went ahead with the first chance of the game in the 9th minute. A corner was not properly dealt with and the return ball into the area found Greg Leur who side footed past Cook.

The Wings responded though and equalised in the 19th minute with a very well taken goal. A ball into Rowan Liburd was chested into the path of Lionel Ainsworth who hit a sweet half volley into the bottom corner.

Mitchell Dickenson who had trials at Welling in the summer headed wide for the hosts shortly after.

Reice Cook made a fabulous save from Charlie Kendall as the Borough player was played in but Cook got down low to save well.

On the stroke of half time Welling had a great chance to go ahead. Lionel Ainsworth showed great trickery to wriggle past challenges, the ball fell to Stefan Ilic but his shot was pushed away for a corner.

Into the 2nd half and Welling started ok, Stefan Ilic heading wide early on. But Eastbourne began to come into the game from the hour mark and missed a golden opportunity. Charlie Walker blazing over from inside the penalty area when he looked certain to score.

Eastbourne did go ahead shortly after, a corner was not properly dealt with by Reice Cook in the Welling goal and he could only parry the ball to Kendall who fired the ball home from close range.

Unlike the first goal, this goal seem to knock
the stuffing out of Welling, with Eastbourne whilst not creating much themselves happy to sit on the lead as Welling failed to create a single chance as the game drifted away from them.

Next week they finally play a home fixture in what begins a busy period of fixtures for Welling. Manager Bradley Quinton will look to get that first win on the board.
