Concord Rangers 1-1 Welling United
Welling picked up a hard fought point at Concord Rangers on Tuesday night. It was an improved performance from Welling after Manager Bradley Quinton made several changes to his starting eleven.
Rowan Liburd saw an early header go just wide from Nathan Green’s cross. Lyle Della-Verde then had a shot tipped over after the bar from outside the area.
Welling started lively and went close again Ward-Cochrane having a shot deflected straight into the arms of Chris Haigh the Concord goalkeeper. He made another save this time from Green who fizzed an effort goalwards.
Charlee Hughes and Aron Pollock both went close for the hosts as they slowly came into the game. Reise Charles-Cook saved from Jack Bridge
Ward-Cochrane drew another good save out of Haigh as the game became tennis like with both team attacking.
On the stroke of half time Reice-Cook made an outstanding save tipping over an effort from Lamar Reynolds which was destined for the top corner.
The second half was only 3 minutes old when Concord went ahead. Alex Wall who was a menace all night was adjudged to have been brought down illegal inside the area. Wall smashed the ball straight down the middle to put the hosts ahead.
Welling struck back almost immediately Lyle-Verde, Welling’s best player on the night, picked up the ball twenty-five yards from goal and let fly with an effort to found the top corner.
The Wings tails were now up and Ayo Tanimowo drove a fierce cross into the area that Liburd failed to direct goalwards.
With the game drawing to a close the tempo dropped as both sides became tired on an energy sapping pitch. It was Concord who almost snatched the win after the ball fell kindly to Sam Blackman and with just Cook to beat he lifted the ball over the bar, as Welling held on for a deserved point.
Welling now travel to Hemel Hempstead on Saturday for their 5th away game of the season already.
