Welling produced a sublime performance to inflict a first defeat of the season on Concord Rangers. Coming into the game the side from Essex had only conceded 2 goals but The Wings ran riot and deservedly took home the points.
The game didn’t get off to the best start for Welling though as they lost John Paul Kissock after a tough tackle on him saw him pick up a knee injury which could result in the midfielder being out for a while, he was replaced by David Ijaha
But Welling went ahead with the first attack of the game in the 15th minute and it was a super move. Jack Jebb cut the Concord defence in half with a ball to Danny Mills who then squared to Brendan Kiernan in the area who took a touch before smashing home.
The away side almost added to their tally two minutes later. Jack Jebb played the ball to Mills, who saw his shot blocked as far as Kiernan who also saw his shot blocked the ball fell to Gavin McCallum who dragged his effort just wide.
Welling had the ball in the net shortly after with Kiernan following up a save from a Goldberg shot but Goldberg was adjudged to have been offside in the initial move.
With two minutes to half time, excellent play from Kiernan almost set up Mills but he just missed the cross with an outstretched leg.
However on the stroke of half time Welling’s dominance finally paid off as they doubled their lead.
The impressive Kiernan went on a mazy run before picking out Jack Jebb on the edge of the area who with his left foot arrowed his effort into the bottom corner.
In a rare attack in time added on of the first half Concord won a free kick in a dangerous area but Alex Wall could only blaze his effort into the Welling wall.
Into the 2nd half, it took Welling eight minutes to go further ahead. Kiernan picked Goldberg with a pass who turned and fired low through a crowd players and into the corner of the net.
The Wings went four ahead in the 59th minute, with Welling hitting Concord on the counter attack. Gavin McCallum who started the attack saw his shot saved by Sam Beasant but McCallum gleefully tucked home the rebound.
Welling completed the scoring in the 67th minute. Jack Jebb whipped in a corner to the near post which was met with a clever flick from Thierry Audel who guided it home for his 4th goal of the season.
Having been a spectator for much of the game, Dan Wilks then produced a superb save diving to tip a Danny Green free kick over the bar.
Wilks ensured his clean sheet was intact pushing a long range shot over the bar as Welling produced a superb performance and set the benchmark for the rest of the season.
