Commercially Speaking | Josh Waddell

Meet our new Commercial Manager Josh Waddell. Here is his column from the programme in our final game of the season vs Hampton & Richmond.

“I am delighted to join the Welling United team as the new Commercial Manager on a part time basis.

I am a local having grown up in Bexleyheath and gone to school close to Park View Road at Bexley Grammar. I am passionate about football having followed my team (West Ham for those interested) home and away for many years and being a season ticket holder.

My passion for the game spilled into my career aspirations. I studied a sports business degree and after graduation joined the commercial team at Charlton Athletic where I spent over seven years. Since departing I have worked in a commercial role in the publishing industry by my passion for football has remained.

I contacted Welling United to see if there were any opportunities and upon meeting Chris Roots and the team was delighted to agree the role. I have bombarded the team with questions, collated information and whilst there are challenges there are many exciting opportunities. Not least digitally and utilising the club’s website and growing social media platforms to generate additional revenue in what, until now, is an untapped resource.

I notice that the club’s fanzine has picked up on my appointment and I would be delighted to engage with fans and lean on their experience and passion for the club to identify the areas they believe the club can grow commercially.

Friends and relatives are regular attendees to PVR and they have already bent my ear! The next steps in the role are to engage with as many local businesses as I can.
