Chairman Mark Goldberg spoke ahead of the Saturday’s home win over Eastbourne Borough.
“Overall, the first half of 2018/19 has produced good results and we find ourselves in one of the play off positions, which was our target for the season. We have 41 points, which should mean that our National League South status is safe.
Unfortunately, we were unable to reach the 1st Round proper of the FA Cup, or to progress in the FA Trophy and therefore benefit from the associated income that can be generated.
This, combined with reduced sponsorship income and crowd figures that have not improved, means that in order to balance the books, we now need to make a reduction in our playing budget accordingly whilst trying to remain as competitive as possible.
I would just like to wish everyone at the club all the very best wishes for the year ahead.”
With this news, there has also been some player movements this week.
Zak Newton has rejoined former club Worthing on a one-month loan deal. Good luck, Zak!
Both Matt Paterson and John-Paul Kissock have now left the club. Both players have re-joined former clubs with Paterson signing for Havant & Waterlooville and Kissock signing for Whitehawk.
The Club would like to thank both JP and Matt for their efforts in the Welling red and wish them all the best for the future.
Steve King has moved to strengthen the forward line with the signing of Jack Barham on a season-long loan deal from Vanarama National League side Barnet. Barham joined Barnet in pre-season, taking his first steps in the professional game after a hugely successful spell at Greenwich Borough.
In 2017/18, Barham found himself on the scoresheet 37 times and registered a further 10 assists for both Phoenix Sports and Greenwich Borough, finishing the campaign as the Bostik South top scorer. King managed to secure Jack’s signature ahead of a number of clubs at National South level. Welcome to PVR, Jack.
