Welling produced an impressive display to beat play off chasing Braintree Town at Park View Road.In the process this victory, was Welling’s third victory on the spin.
Welling started with plenty of impetus and really took the game to Braintree. Joe Healy fired over an early chance after Christian Nanetti’s cross fell to him on the edge of the area.
Bradley Goldberg was next to go close a Jack Parkinson free kick was played into the area, the free kick was flicked on by Anthony Acheampong, but Goldberg was unable to keep his lobbed effort down and the ball went over.
Another half chance came Welling’s way when Nanetti hit a fierce half volley over the bar.
In the 27th minute the shape of the game changed. There was very little evidence of any friction between the sides but Ricky Gabriel threw an arm towards Callum Driver after the Wings right back had made a challenge on the Irons player. Referee Jason Richardson took his time before showing Gabriel a red card. Callum Driver was booked for his part in the melee that insued.
The Wings now with a numerical advantage pushed on and a super cross from the impressive Driver picked out Olumide Durojaiye but he headed wide.
The Wings then saw a golden opportunity come and go, Bradley Goldberg drove into the box before picking out Joe Healy his low effort was heading in but Christian Frimpong blocked the goal bound effort.
Having not been in the constant, Braintree went close in first half injury time, Phil Roberts seeing Miles slightly off his line curled an effort just over the bar.

Jonathan Miles then had to be alert to keep out a Roberts’ shot at his near post.
However it was Welling who always looked the more likely of adding to their tally. McDonald did well to tip over Tom Bradbrook’s close range header however Welling scored from the resulting corner. Jeffrey Monakana played the corner to Christian Nanetti who whipped in a fierce cross that Nathan McDonald flapped with his attempted punch, the ball fell kindly to Anthony Acheampong who expertly tapped home, much to the delight of his team mates.

A ball was played into Tom Bradbrook who took a touch before playing the ball back to Jack Jebb. Jebb spotted McDonald slightly off his line and went for goal, stunningly curling the ball from 25 yards out over McDonald and into the top corner.
