Dartford 4-1 Welling United

Jamie Coyle and his management team must be cursing the decision back in the Summer to let Alfie Pavey join Dartford. For the 2nd time in a week the striker came back to haunt Welling this time with a brace and his 18th of the campaign.

Welling started quite brightly seeing a lot of the ball and a half chance from Jamie Coyle saw him blaze over from outside the area. Slowly Dartford started to get into stride and they took the lead in the 19th minute. Ryan Hayes was allowed to run a long way before firing an effort that took a deflection on its way past the helpless Ryan Sandford.

Welling though deservedly got back into the game just five minutes later. Christian Nanetti stood a cross up to the back post where the very impressive Elliot Romain headed home.

A super save from Ryan Sandford helped Welling stay level as he pushed away an effort from Pugh as he seemed certain to score.

Dartford did get back in front in the 39th minute. A ball from Ryan Hayes carved the Welling backline completely open, this allowed Danny Harris to pull the ball back to Andy Pugh who slotted past Sandford, it was a carbon copy goal that Pugh scored at PVR on Boxing Day.

It could and should have been 3-1 just before Half Time. Danny Mills heading wide from another Ryan Hayes cross.

As it was Welling almost grabbed an equaliser in added on time of the 1st half. Connor Dymond saw a shot cleared off the line by Ronnie Vint.

The Wings used this strong finish as a springboard to start the 2nd half brightly. A thunderbolt from Joe Healy was tipped over the bar by Keeper Ibrahim the effort was heading into the corner of the net.

Sandford then had to be on top form to deny Danny Mills as he some how kept out his low effort that appeared to be heading in.

Welling then missed a golden opportunity, Bradbrook beat the offside trap to run onto a long ball, he reached the ball before keeper Ibrahim and managed to round him, before delaying his shot. Bradbrook played the ball to Romain but he too delayed on the ball before Vint was on hand to clear the danger.

Vint was in the thick of things once again as a loose ball came out to Joe Healy on the edge of the area but Vint bravely threw himself at the ball and deflected the goal bound shot wide.

Just as they did on Boxing Day Dartford brought on Alfie Pavey with twenty minutes to go and it took him just 3 minutes to show Welling what they are missing. A deep corner from Elliott Bradbrook was headed back into the area and Pavey was on hand to score a poachers goal from close range to effectively seal the game.

The game was then put beyond any doubt in the 78th minute, Pavey was played through beat the offside trap and slotted under the body of Sandford.

Dartford nearly made it 5-1 but Sandford pulled a smart save to deny the table toppers.

The result compounded a miserable Festive Period for Welling who are now in a real slump of form having gone 8 games without a victory and facing a real battle to keep the season alive.
