The homeside started the game brightly and went close just minutes into the game. Jamie Day's long range effort was punched clear as far as Che Stadhart but the striker could only shoot straight at Danny McDonnell.
Wings Hitman Danny Kedwell had his shot from the edge of the area well saved before Day's free-kick was nearly fired in by Carthy.
Welling's failure to seize early opportunity came back to haunt them 19 minutes in. Steve Perkins brought down Craig Wilding and the resulting free-kick was headed back for Adam Burley who acrobatically volleyed home.
A minute later and Dennis Pearce was lucky to have stayed on the pitch. Martin Carthy's long ball found Stadhart who was brought down by last man Pearce on the edge of the box but the referee waved played on.
Wings keeper Paul Hyde did well to deny Adam Webster on 25 minutes before Welling scored the equaliser two minutes before the break. Day's free-kick was swung into the box where Carthy headed in at the far post.
The winner came just five minutes into the second period. Perkins headed Day’s corner onto the bar before the free ball was met by the diving head of Des Boateng who scored his third of the season.
Mark Danks went close to drawing the visitors level with the forward weaving in and out of Wings player before seeing his shot deflected just inches over. Further chances for Graham Ward and Craig Wilding were wasted, as it looked less likely Worcester would find an equaliser.
A chance for Kedwell was blasted over and then with minutes remaining Hyde was forced into making one last save when Adam Webster headed goalwards.
The draw for the next round takes place on Monday.
Welling are back in league action next Saturday when the Wings welcome Bishop's Stortford to Park View Road, kick-off 2:00pm.

Extracts from the Interview:
"The performance wasn’t brilliant, but like all cup games the result is the main thing so we are really pleased about that. They are a tough side that had a game plan and they stuck to it making it really difficult for us.
We are a good honest set of boys, we should have been two or three up before they scored and we gave away a bad goal. The boys are full of character and a very determined bunch of lads. The result again was great for us. It’s a big competition for us and its just getting in the habit of wining which is the main thing as we are on a bit of a roll at the moment."
