In front of a bumper crowd of 900 fans Wings Boss Adrian Pennock made two changes from the side that disappointingly lost to Farnborough Town on Tuesday evening, with Steve Perkins and Adrian Clarke returning in place of James Pinnock and Matt Bodkin.

The game started evenly with both teams sharing possession and chances. 10 minutes in and a sublime passing move from Weymouth allowed Kirk Jackson through one on one with Wings keeper Jamie Turner, but Leon Solomon managed to track back and block the shot.

Immediately, the Wing's responded when the goal kick out from Turner was headed down by Steve Perkins into the path of Danny Kedwell who fired a fierce right footed shot which was just blocked by Terras defender Roy O'Brien.

However, only five minutes later the Wings took the lead when Steve Perkins was brought down just outside the box and Jamie Day's deep free-kick was knocked down by Perkins to Chris Moore who smashed the ball home.

It took the league leaders Weymouth 15 minutes to create any real response when Shaun Wilkinson's effort was denied by Jamie Turner.

3 minutes before the break Adrian Clarke was just inches away from doubling the Wings lead when his left foot shot curled just wide of the post.

The second half started competitively with the first chance falling to the Wings when a long ball from Lee Gledhill was run down by Perkins who the set-up Kedwell to fire his shot just over the bar.

As the second half progressed Weymouth's possession increased with their best efforts coming from set pieces requiring Jamie Turner to make some excellent saves to deny the title favourites.

The Wings defence held together brilliantly, as Weymouth piled on the pressure. Chris Moore played brilliantly at the centre of defence and arguably played one of his most impressive games of the season.

As the Terras poured players forward, Welling were able to catch them on the break and beat the off side trap but could not build on the lead. By this stage, Weymouth were desperate to secure at least a point from this fiercely competitive match and threw everyone forward.

The Wings defence nevertheless continued to stand firm to the frustration of the Terras forwards. After some tense closing minutes for the Wing's fans the final whistle was eventually blown after 4 minutes of injury time.

This was a major victory for Welling and puts them right back in to play-off contention. For Weymouth, this was a defeat that puts huge pressure on them given that St Alban's secured 3 points on the same day taking them to the top of the table.

If the Wing's can continue to play with the spirit and determination shown in this tense and competitive match they may well be facing Weymouth again in the play-offs!

Come on you Wings!
