Adrian Pennock stuck with the side that drew 2-2 with Newport on Wednesday night, with the only changes being those on the bench i.e. Danny Kedwell, Lee Shearer and Adrian Clarke on the bench.
With the Wings desperate to get back to winning ways in the league it took some 20 minutes before they created their first chance of the game when a Jamie Day header fell to Chris Moore who volleyed a clear opportunity over the bar from close range.
On the half hour mark the arriving Che Stadhart met an in-swinging cross from Leon Solomon but his shot was too weak to test keeper Ryan Northmore. With more chances falling to the Wings they were unlucky to miss out on a good penalty shout when referee M.Lever played on after Che Stadhart was brought down inside the area.
With no goals arriving for the Wings, Weston-super-Mare created their own chance on the 40th minute when Lewis Hogg volleyed just over the bar.
Welling responded in the last minutes of the first half when Che Stadhart shot from close range only to be frustrated by a great save from Seagull's keeper Ryan Northmore.
The second half continued as the first with patchy play and chances falling to Rob Owen, Jamie Day and James Pinnock all of whom failed to bag that crucial goal that could settle the Welling team and give the fans something to shout about.
With the Wings last winning back in November there was an air of anxiety and frustration coming from both the team and the crowd, as it seemed that the match could be heading for another a draw!
On the 70th minute Pennock brought on Danny Kedwell to replace the impressive Matt Bodkin in the hope that the change might change the pattern of the game. This proved to be a master stroke as within 5 minutes a long ball from Chris Moore was picked up by Danny Kedwell, who then calmly took the ball round keeper Northmore before smashing the ball home in front of the patient and now cheering Wings fans.
This much-needed goal was then followed by a controversial decision by the referee when he waved on a penalty chance after Weston-super-Mare clearly handled inside the box.
Nevertheless, the game ended with the Wings bagging that elusive win which the fans have been waiting for since last November. With a busy schedule coming up this is a perfect way for Welling to get their promotion hopes back on track!
Come on you Wings!
