Wings Boss Adrian Pennock was without the suspended Jamie Day but welcomed back Lawrie Wilson to the starting line-up.
The Wings showed no sign of a hangover from the Boxing Day defeat at Fisher Athletic, enjoying the better of the early exchanges. A low cross from Danny Kedwell found Steve Harper unmarked inside the box but the former Fleet man hit the post.
Good work from Ellis Green allowed Harper another shot at goal, but his effort was parried into the path of Che Stadhart who fired over from close range. Thurrock had chances for Leon McKenzie and Wesley Thomas but they could not capitalise on them.
Stadhart missed an opportunity to put Welling 1-0 up on 38 minutes when the striker dragged wide from Kedwell's ball. However, just shortly after the Wings finally got the breakthrough. On the stroke of halftime Thomas bundled over Stadhart inside the box and Kedwell slotted home the resulting penalty kick.
The second half saw fewer opportunities than the first but a well-crafted goal on 70 minutes doubled the Wings lead. Excellent ball control from Kedwell allowed the Welling top-scorer to sublimely finish past Thurrock keeper James Hussey.
Fleet substitute Papy Kanyuka then saw his shot well saved by Jamie Turner before the homeside clawed one back to make it 2-1. Ten minutes from time Tobi Jinadu scrambled the ball home from a Thurrock corner.
Danny Kedwell was deprived of his hat-trick moments from time when the striker was denied by the feet of Hussey but the Wings held on for a victory that maintains their position in the top three.
Welling welcome Fisher Athletic to Park View Road on New Years Day, kick-off is again at the earlier time of 1.30pm.
Come on you Wings!
