Welling United came from behind to win 2-1 against Havant & Waterlooville at Park View Road. Goals from Charlie Sheringham and Moses Ademloa in the second half cancelled out Havant's earlier lead via Craig Watkins.
Despite a lack of chances in the opening 20 minutes, it was a fast paced game with both sides having very little time on the ball. Moses Ademola was inches away from giving Welling an early lead, however, he couldn't quite reach a Wings low cross.
Havant took the lead against the run of play. A poorly cleared free-kick fell perfectly for Craig Watkins who volleyed the ball home for an excellent goal.
Nevertheless, Welling didn't give up and went in search of an equaliser. Charlie Sheringham should have drew his side level when the striker dragged agonisingly wide of the post.
Winger Sanchez Ming also went close to levelling the score when his powerful shot was deflected wide for a corner.
After the break and seconds in new signing Harry Arter almost scored. The effort would have been a top contender for goal of the season, when the midfielder's long range drive crashed back off the crossbar.
Welling were now dominating and after a series of corners the Wings finally equalised. Lee Blackburn's set piece was knocked back for Sheringham to head home from yards out.
It was clear Havant were on the back foot and it came as no surprise when Welling went in front. Moses Ademola nicked the ball off Brett Poate inside the area and a sublime finish took his tally to three for the season.
Substitute Richard Stevens almost scored his second league goal when his shot was tipped over the bar. Welling's lead never looked in danger and the Havant fans clearly showed their anger at today's defeat when at full-time there were heated exchanges with their sides playing staff.
Next up, Welling travel to Basingstoke Town in more Blue Square South action on Tuesday, kick-off at 7:45pm.
Come on you Wings!
