After Welling United's first defeat of the season away at Hayes & Yeading last week, the Wings were hoping to bounce back with a win against Dorchester Town. However, it would prove to be a frustrating afternoon at Park View Road for the Wings as they missed numerous clear-cut opportunities and the game ended goalless.

The homeside started the game well and could have easily been 3-0 up by 15 minutes. Lee Blackburn had a shot deflected over inside a minute before Ryan Martin missed a glorious chance to put Welling in front. A long kick from Scott Andrews was flicked on into the path of Martin, who through on goal couldn't get enough height on his chip and the visitors’ keeper was able to palm the ball to safety.

Moments later an Ellis Green corner was headed inches wide by defender Matthew McEntegart. An excellent passing move between Green, Martin and Dorian Smith should have finished with a goal but Green blazed over the bar.

The Wings had a big penalty shouted waved away when on 10 minutes Joe Healy was bundled over when trying to reach Craig Braham-Barrett's cross. Welling keeper Scott Andrews had very little to do all half as Dorchester failed to test the former Bearsted man.

Into the second period and Dorchester finally started to get going. Within two minutes of the restart Braham-Barrett was forced to make a block from Nick Crittenden's drive. Five minutes later and at the other end Welling should have taken the lead. An excellent run from Braham-Barrett culminated in a low ball across the box that found Blackburn unmarked but Gareth Stewart brilliantly saved the midfielder’s shot.

Andrews saved well at the feet of Mitch Nicholson and even when the resulting rebound fell to Nick Crittenden, the midfielder dragged wide. Further chances for Frankie Chappell and substitute Sol Pinnock both went begging as the game fizzled out, unlike the rain however.

Welling travel to Thurrock in the Setanta Shield on Tuesday then make the trip to Eastleigh on Saturday.

Come on you Wings!

Extracts from Interview:

"We could have still been there until 9 or 10 o'clock tonight and we probably still wouldn't have scored. It was one of those games; we started absolutely fantastic, we played some great stuff and I think had we got an early goal then we would have gone on and scored a few more.

We missed Charlie a bit today, it is an area that we are a little bit short, especially with the Mucu situation, I have been waiting and waiting. How long can I wait so I may have to get him out on loan when he is fit so I can pave for someone to come in, it's an area we need to look at. "
