Welling United drew 0-0 with strugglers Sutton United at Park View Road on Saturday afternoon. Clear chances were at a premium but both sides did have opportunities to snatch the much needed three points.
The visitors had the better of the first half, but it was the Wings that came closest in the opening period. The impressive Orlando Smith had a right-foot shot fly just wide of the post. From here on in it was Sutton that looked more likely to take the lead.
Two minutes after Smith's effort and at the other end, Jamie Turner made an excellent low save to deny Warren McBean.
A mistake from Orlando Smith then nearly gifted Sutton the lead. Fortunately Tuner was alert to stop Jason Henry's teasing cross. McBean was again involved in the action when the former St Albans striker had his shot tipped over the bar.
Minutes before the break and Sutton should really have gone in front. Paul Honey's pinpoint cross found Henry unmarked but the striker could only manage to head wide from six yards out.
After the break and Sutton continued where they left off, but nevertheless they still could not score. Two glorious opportunities for Henry and Craig Dundas were both wasted early in the second half.
Welling had created very little all game but late on could have stolen all three points. Substitute Michael Boakye couldn't quite reach Orlando Smith's low cross and then in stoppage time, another substitute Jackson Ohakham fired over.
Welling travel to Margate in the Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday before welcoming Basingstoke Town to Park View Road in Blue Square South action on Saturday.

Extracts from Interview:
"Very disappointed, I know it was a chance for us to get a win under belt but I just think we let ourselves down today. Can't complain about the commitment but decision making and the style of the play, which got dictated too because of the weather to a certain degree but that was not good enough today especially after putting in a fantastic performance on Tuesday.
I have told the boys we can't pick and choose when we play. Today I question them, are you up for the fight? Sutton were today. We are down to our bare bones but I just expected a little more from my 11 players that went out there to start."
