Welling United drew 0-0 with St Albans City on Saturday, in a game neither side could afford to lose. With both sides on a good run of form, on paper the match promised to be an exciting encounter. However, chances were few and far between and 0-0 was a fair result.
St Albans had the better of the first half chances. Ten minutes in and Ben Martin had a swerving effort well held by Jamie Turner. Five minutes later and Hassan Sulaiman hit a curling shot just inches wide.
Welling rarely threatened with Saints keeper Paul Bastock having very little to do. Orlando Smith was Welling's most dangerous player, causing the Saints defence all sorts of problems but the Wings lacked the finishing touch.
After the break and the Wings finally started to create some opportunities. Six minutes after the restart both Sonny Cobbs and substitute Ellis Remy failed to get on the end of Richard Carpenter's free-kick.
Welling had Robbie Ryan to thank on 63 minutes when the defender made a last ditch block to deny Hamza Twomey scoring. Cobbs should have put the Wings in front moments later. Good work from Smith set-up Cobbs but from inside the box the on loan player dragged wide.
Further chances were squandered and the match ended with both teams deservedly sharing the points.
Welling travel to Sutton United on Saturday, kick-off 3.00pm.
Come on you Wings!

Extracts from Interview:
"Disappointed with our first half performance, they were the better team. Before the game I would have accepted a point. The standards of today’s display I was not happy with. I don't think we worked their keeper and I can't remember him making a save. There were a few lacklustre performances out their today, which, was disappointing. We have told the lads, we set standards and we expect better than that.
We have played to a system that has made us hard to break down. We are lacking a front man; we are a little bit short in that area. When you win games, you gain confidence and that’s why you get results."
