Welling United lost 2-0 at the hands of Maidenhead United at Park View Road on Saturday. A goal in the first half from Manny Williams and one in the second from Dwayne Lee secured all three points for the Magpies.

With Tony Sinclair out with a lengthy injury and Robbie Ryan also sidelined, Boss Neil Smith had to shuffle the back four with Jackson Ohakham and Marlon Patterson filling in.

Maidenhead could have been in front as early as the fifth minute. Jamie Turner misjudged a long ball and Manny Williams nearly made the keeper pay but his effort was easily cleared.

Turner made a save at full stretch 10 minutes in when Darti Brown hit a low shot from the edge of the area.

Wings loan signing Charles Ademeno then went on a superb solo run past four defenders before seeing his excellent strike well saved. The resulting corner found Chris Moore but the defender could only manage to fire wide from yards out.

Welling had a goal disallowed on 24 minutes when Andrew Pugh was caught offside and then moments later Ademeno missed from close range.

It looked only a matter of time before Welling would score but the visitors took the lead against the run of play on 37 minutes. Manny Williams turned the Wings defence inside out before hitting a low strike past Turner into the back of the net.

Neil Smith had a header saved on the line but Welling went in at the break with a 1-0 deficit.

With the bad weather setting in, things went from bad to worse in the second period. A quick passing move caught the Wings defence out and Dwane Lee was able to slot the ball home. The Magpies had further chances to extend their lead but the visitors were more than happy with the scoreline.

Pugh and Ellis Green went close to pulling a goal back but it was just not going to be Welling's day.

Welling travel to Wealdstone next Saturday in the FA Trophy Third Round Qualifying.

Come on you Wings!

Extracts from Interview:

"Very disappointed, the first 20 minutes and the chances we had I thought we would get one and hopefully do a Bromley on them but it never materialised. They won all the second balls, they got the goal on the break and they never looked back. They looked strong physically and mentally than us. I think Tuesday took it out of us against Fisher.

We have got two young lads up front and they have to learn this is the standard in the Blue Square South. You have got to be prepared to put a fight up in every game. It was the same against Dorchester, we created enough chances to win that game but today I would have taken a draw. We have got to have a look at ourselves and see where we can get better and make sure we are up for it next Saturday.
