Welling United extended their unbeaten league run to three games on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw against Havant & Waterlooville at Park View Road. A 42nd minute goal from Andy Gurney gave the Hawks the lead before Tony Sinclair equalised just after the restart.

Havant only had one clear-cut opportunity in the first half before taking the lead just before the break. Shaun Wilkinson's cross was headed over by Jamie Slabber five minutes in.

Welling dominated from here on in and created numerous chances to go in front. A teasing cross from Adam Cottrell allowed Marlon Patterson to set-up Ross Montague but the forward struck the post.

Boss Neil Smith had an effort comfortably saved on 28 minutes before Patterson saw his first time volley crash off the bar.

Despite the Wings' dominance it was the Hawks that would go in at the break 1-0 up. Brett Poate's free-kick was headed in by Andy Gurney past the helpless Clark Masters.

Into the second period and Welling deservedly drew level just two minutes in. Marlon Patterson's corner found Neil Smith whose effort was deflected as far as Tony Sinclair where the defender fired home to make it 1-1.

The Hawks went in search of a winner but Havant rightly had a goal disallowed when Tony Taggart was given offside on 72 minutes.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Masters made an excellent save to deny Slabber's low shot.

Substitute Ellis Green had a late effort well saved but the game ended in a draw and both sides shared the points.

Next up Welling welcome 19th placed Braintree Town to Park View Road on Tuesday.

Extracts from Interview:

"They were up there as one of the favourites this season and coming into this game they were in the top half of the division. We knew it was going to be tough but I'm a bit disappointed that we have only come away with a point. Some of our play in the first half was fantastic, second half we sat back a little bit, pleased with some aspects and disappointed with others.

We were going for the three points, we went for it, we thought we would get at them and the first 45 minutes we were fantastic. Thoroughly pleased with some of the aspects but there is still a lot to work on.
