Welling United lost 3-1 against Hampton & Richmond at Park View Road on Saturday. Sam Gargan gave the Wings a deserved lead after 31 minutes. It wasn't until the second half that the third place side managed to break the Welling line when Lawrence Yaku slotted home on 76 minutes.
However, the game was turned upside down when keeper Jamie Turner was sent-off. Goals from Ian Hodges and Stuart Lake secured the three points for the visitors against the ten men Wings.
The Beavers had the better of the opening exchanges with Dean Wells almost catching out Jamie Turner with a quick free-kick but the goalkeeper made a fine save. Robbie Ryan then had to make a superb block just yards from goal to deny Hampton the lead when Francis Quarm looked almost certain to score.
Although being under some early pressure it was the homeside that look the lead. Ohran Stewart did well to keep the ball in play before crossing for Sam Gargan to head home his fourth goal for the Wings.
Welling continued to attack with Sonny Cobbs heading just wide and Omari Coleman having a low shot well saved by Matt Lovett. However, they should have made it 2-0 when Coleman through on goal failed to take his chance and fired wide.
After the break Beavers striker Ian Hodges was lucky to have stayed on the pitch after grappling with Turner when the keeper accidentally handled outside the area. Nevertheless the player got away with a yellow card.
Cobbs again went close for the Wings when the defender's header was blocked on the line from Richard Carpenter's free-kick.
Despite Welling controlling long periods of the game, the Wings defence was eventually broken by Lawrence Yaku 76 minutes into the game. From Quarm's low cross the striker prodded the ball past Turner.
The real turning point came just two minutes later. Welling keeper Turner came racing off his line and out of his area to bring down Hodges. The referee immediately blew his whistle and quickly showed the Wings number one the red card. Ellis Green was sacrificed as young goalkeeper Adam Highsted was brought on in his place.
It took Hampton just five minutes after the sending off to take the lead. Hodges, the player constantly involved in the action, headed past Highsted to make it 2-1 to the visitors.
Substitute Amos Foyewa did have an effort saved when through one on one but the striker fired straight at Lovett. The Beavers scored a third late on and with it killing off any hope of the Wings securing some vital points. Stuart Lake smashed the ball in from close range to send the Middlesex side back to the Beveree Stadium happy.
Welling travel to Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm.

Extracts from Interview:
"First half performance I think it was good, second half I thought we was very poor. I don’t think we deserved to get anything out of the game. I need to bring in 5 players and the sooner the better. Some of the signings are not performing at this level. I think we have about 4 or 5 players that are struggling at this level.
He (Turner) did take the player but it was outside the box so then you have to say was it a goal scoring opportunity? Rush of blood, wrong decision by Jamie and he paid the consequences for it. I think that contributed to the last two goals. The table does not lie and the players here are not good enough and need to be replaced."
