As expected Welling started the better of the two sides and created an abundance of chances. Fabian Quintyn was close to putting the Wings in front but a last ditch tackle stopped the loanee from scoring five minutes in. Just a minute later and player-manager Neil Smith headed over before the inevitable happened and the Wings took the lead.
Leon Solomon crossed for Chris Moore to easily head home and put the Wings 1-0 up. Two minutes later and the homeside could have doubled their advantage when Quintyn had a shot saved by the feet of goalkeeper James Redwood.
However, it was not long before Welling made it 2-0 when on 25 minutes Adam Cottrell's cross was met by the head of Ross Montague who scored his first goal since joining on loan from Brentford.
Into the second half and it was a completely different Welling performance as the homeside allowed Barkingside back into the game. Five minutes into the second period and Barkingside pulled one back. Jamie Turner did well to deny the vistors on their first attempt but Mark Steadman was there to pick up the pieces and slot home from close range.
Barkingside failed to test keeper Jamie Turner after this and the Wings should have killed off the game. Quintyn had a shot parried into the path of Marlon Patterson but the winger fired over and Solomon then had an effort excellently saved on the hour mark.
Further opportunities saw Montague have a header saved and substitute Lloyd Blackman hit the post. Nevertheless, the referee blew the final whistle and confirmed Welling's place in the next round.
Back to league action next week when Welling travel to St Albans City on Saturday.

Extracts from Interview:
"I'm pleased we are through to the next round, wasn't pleased with the second half performance but its about getting into the hat for the next round and we have. We are now going to try and get a run going. We put ourselves under pressure again; first half I couldn't fault the lads. We played some fantastic football but we can't let it go to our heads.
We have to get through but we could have made it a lot easier for ourselves. It looks like we scraped through but all the chances we had, some of the football was a delight but then we go and take the gloss off it. I feel sorry for the supporters to have to endure that but we are there, we got through so we move on. "
