Hampton & Richmond v Welling
Welling lost 2-0 away at Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday. Despite an attacking frontline of James Baker, Charlie Sheringham and loanee Moses Ademola, the Wings were unable to stop two second half goals from the homeside. Lawrence Yaku and Nana Badu secured the win for the Beavers.
Whilst the score-line flattered the homeside, it will be little consolation to Boss Andy Ford who now finds his side five points behind Maidenhead United in the last playoff spot.
Chances were few and far between in the first half. The only notable goal scoring opportunities included an early shot from Lawrence Yaku that flew wide and at the other end good skill from James Baker almost ended in a goal but his strike was blocked by Stuart Lake.
The second-half was a much livelier affair but one Welling were left wondering how they didn’t at least score a goal.
Substitute Ryan Johnson fired just inches wide of the post whilst seconds later Ademola’s by-line cross found Charlie Sheringham unmarked and two yards out from goal, but somehow the striker miss hit his shot and the ball rolled away harmlessly.
It was against the run of play that Hampton took the lead. On 73 minutes a clinical finish from Yaku gave the Beavers an undeserved lead.
Andy Ford quickly made a change and brought on Loui Fazackerly in place of Sheringham. It was almost the perfect start for the former Bromley man when Fazackerly’s looping header dropped agonisingly wide.
Lady lucky just was not with the Wings on this Tuesday evening and Hampton wrapped the game up with 8 minutes remaining. Nana Badu slotted home after a defensive mix-up.
Welling now travel to Croydon Athletic in the London Senior Cup on Thursday evening, kick-off 7.45pm.
