Welling v Folkestone Invicta
Welling United won 7-1 in a rout against Folkestone Invicta in the Kent Senior Cup Quarter Final at Park View Road on Tuesday evening. The night also saw debuts for new signing Sam Hurrell and the returning James Baker. It was the Wings that went behind when on 12 minutes a mistake from keeper David Wilkinson allowed Kieran Byrne to score.
However, it only took Welling seven minutes to draw level. A Wings corner wasn’t cleared by the Folkestone defence and Richard Stevens was on hand to poke the ball home. Sonny Cobbs gave Welling the lead five minutes before the break with a sublime free-kick that was hit low past the Invicta keeper.
After the break the Blue Square South side would make sure of their passage into the next round by romping to victory.
Substitute Charlie Sheringham took little time to add to his tally for the season. On the hour mark, a cut back from James Baker allowed Sheringham to slot home from close range.
Sheringham then made it 4-1 on 72 minutes by rounding the Folkestone keeper and tapping the ball in.
With ten minutes remaining, Lee Blackburn got in on the scoring action when the midfielder slotted home. Then substitute Ayden Richards scored his first senior goal for the club when the young player skipped past the goalkeeper and side-footed home into an empty net for 6-1.
To round off a perfect evening for the Wings, Lee Blackburn scored with a brilliant strike from outside the box to make it 7-1.
