Wings boss Adrian Pennock made only one change to the side that defeated Dorchester in the FA cup last week, earning them a plum tie with Huddersfield Town next Sunday. Matt Lee replaced the suspended Lee Gledhill, whilst Mark Green was added to the subs bench.

The first twenty minutes were a scrappy affair, with Maidenhead having the majority of the possession but very rarely testing Jamie Turner in the Welling goal. As the half progressed the Wings got back into the game having an abundance of chances to take the lead. First a Jamie Day cross found Rob Owen unmarked in the six-yard box but he mistimed his header and the Magpies were able to clear. Minutes later and again Rob Owen found himself in a scoring position. A through pass put Owen one on one with Maidenhead keeper Paul McCarthy but his shot left a lot to be desired.

However, the Wings were 1-0 up on the half hour mark when an Adrian Clarke corner was nodded on by Magpies own defender Abdul Saeed Osman into the path of Che Stadhart who nodded the ball home into an empty net from close range. Whilst Welling went into the break a goal to the good they were not firing on all cylinders.

Minutes into the second period and Welling found themselves two goals up. Che Stadhart set-up Rob Owen who on the volley smashed the ball home to give the Wings a two-goal cushion. Welling then let their foot off the pedal and allowed Maidenhead back into the game. A deep Magpies free kick alluded Jamie Turner but luckily for the Wings number one the resulting shot was deflected wide.

However, 55 minutes into the game Jamie Turner wasn't so lucky when the Magpies drew one back after Turner parried a long-range effort from Matt Glynn into the path of Lee Newman who slotted home into an empty net. It then took the Magpies only another five minutes to equalise, much to the disappointment of the travelling support. Maidenhead were deservedly level when former Wings striker Stephen Hughes rounded Turner and scored a brilliant goal from a very tight angle.

Maidenhead's resurgence seemed to be the wake up call Welling needed as they began to pile the pressure on once again. With only 7 minutes left on the clock, Welling United were awarded a penalty. Magpies keeper Paul McCarthy recklessly brought down Che Stadhart in the box and the referee immediately pointed to the spot with Paul McCarthy lucky only to be shown a yellow card. Danny Kedwell stepped up and drilled the ball home to put the Wings in front once more.

Welling rapped things up deep into stoppage time after Jamie Day sent Kedwell clear on goal and he shot low past McCarthy to make it 4-2 to the Wings - moving them in to a impressive second place in the league.

Whilst not the Wing's most convincing performance of the season the win maintains one of their best runs in recent times and sets them up perfectly for next Sunday's huge FA cup game against Huddersfield. Against one of the leading promotion hopefuls for the Championship this will be a big test for the Wings, but with the belief and organisation they are now showing anything is possible!

Next Sunday will be great day for the club and the supporters and judging by the number of enquiries received there will be many Wings fans in Huddersfield supporting the team and hoping for that FA cup magic!

Come on you Wings !!
