An impressive display saw Welling United draw 0-0 at home to Lewes on Saturday. The Wings dominated the game with the in-form Lewes rarely threatening. Welling went close through Jamie Day and Richard Carpenter but the homeside will be happy with their performance in their fourth game in seven days.

Boss Adrian Pennock handed debuts to new signings Hector Mackie and Joe Bruce, with both eventually making excellent first appearances.

Chances were at a premium throughout the game but early opportunities for both sides were squandered. Des Boateng went close minutes in, hitting a snap shot straight at Steve Williams. At the other end Jordao Diogo fired wide from Simon Wormull's blocked free-kick.

Jamie Day almost scored in similar fashion to Tuesday's game against Braintree but the midfielder had his free-kick well saved by Williams.

The Wings were in clear control and the second period was much the same. Richard Carpenter had the best chance of the match to put the Wings in front on 68 minutes. Hector Mackie's superb run allowed the on-loan player to cross for Carpenter but the former Brighton & Hove Albion man dragged his shot wide.

10 minutes later and Carpenter was again involved when the midfielder had his volley comfortably saved.

The Wings happily played out the rest of the game with the Rooks failing to even test Jamie Turner.

Next up the Wings play Salisbury City at Princes Park, Dartford FC on Wednesday. Boss Adrian Pennock has urged everyone to come along and get behind his side.

Come on you Wings!

Extracts from the Interview:
"Brilliant, I thought we was fantastic today and we was unlucky not to win. I can't remember them having a shot. They are a good team but we were excellent. It's the fourth game in a week and it's a shame we didn’t get the three points. But the effort was brilliant and tactically we got it spot on. We more than matched them we looked comfortable. That is a good point for us, reminds me of the Havant game, we didn’t lose today and I'm very pleased.

A little bit of luck in front of goal and maybe we could have nicked it. There was a great atmosphere and they got right behind the boys, which I asked for. The difference today was that we was playing at the football club and not playing the home games away. Very proud of the boys and also with the crowd as I thought they got right behind the team."
