The match saw the return of Che Stadhart to the side replacing Steve Perkins upfront, as Wings Boss Adrian Pennock made just the one change from the team that beat title favourites Weymouth last week.
With the excellent result last Saturday, many where hoping the Wings could do the double over Lewes with a win at the Dripping Pan.
Welling got off to the best possible start taking an early lead. Che Stadhart put Danny Kedwell through on the right-hand side and his low cross was turned into his own net by Lewes defender Steve Robinson.
However, only minutes later the face of the game would change dramatically by the sending off of Lee Gledhill on 11 minutes. The Wings defender was shown two yellow cards within a minute of each other. The first a needless push on Kirk Watts after the ball had gone out of play, before he was shown a second yellow after a challenge on the same player.
Only 4 minutes after Gledhill was given an early bath, the home side equalised through Jamie Cade. Jean-Michel Sigere set up Jamie Cade who hit a powerful strike from the edge of the area.
Pennock was forced into making a quick tactical change and replaced Adrian Clarke with experienced defender Barry Ashby.
Jean-Michel Sigere forced Wings keeper Jamie Turner into making a magnificent save but Lewes were mainly limited to half chances.
The second half saw the Wings continue to defend well and they were nearly rewarded for their hard work when a mistake from Robinson allowed Kedwell through one on one with the keeper. However, the Wings top scorer didn't take advantage and the striker fired his shot at the legs of Paul Wilkerson.
Welling were punished for the missed opportunity as Lewes scored the winner 8 minutes from time. An error from Rob Owen was picked up by Karl Beckford who fired a stunning long-range shot past the helpless Jamie Turner.
Welling welcome Newport County to Park View Road on Saturday who are currently on a 3 game winning streak and will no doubt be another tough game for Adrian Pennock's Wings.
Come on you Wings!
