After the impressive 3-1 victory away at Eastleigh on Saturday Welling fielded the same team to face Histon on Tuesday evening. However, the Wings conceded in just 15 seconds in a reversal of this fixture last season, when Welling themselves took the lead seconds into the game.

Straight from kick-off Histon moved the ball out wide and in a good linkup move allowed Jamie Barker to cross. The cross was parried into the path of Robbie Nightingale who on the second attempt side footed the ball home.

The Wings went close to drawing level when a Jamie Day corner deflected off the back of Erkan Okay towards goal but the fast reactions of Histon keeper Lance Key kept the Stutes in the lead.

Histon doubled their lead on 16 minutes when some more lacklustre defending allowed Jamie Barker to score his second of the season. Adrian Cambridge's corner was swung deep into the area where the Wings defence stood and watched Barker prod home.

Last seasons top scorer for Welling Danny Kedwell should have done better 20 minutes into the first half. His effort with the outside of his foot failed to test Key in the Histon goal rolling wide.

Things went from bad to worse for Adrian Pennock's Wings when 5 minutes before the break Barker scored his second and Histon's third. Jamie Turner's poor clearance fell for Barker to slide the ball home after Ian Cambridge had all the time in the world to cross.

Pennock made two quick changes in a desperate attempt to plug the holes in the Wings defence. Leon Solomon and Ellis Green replaced Chris Moore and Matt Bodkin.

Second half was a much better performance from the homeside at times playing some decent football. Che Stadhart saw his thumping effort well saved by Key, before minutes later Welling pulled one back.

Jamie Day's sublime freekick rattled the underside of the bar and fell to Joe Vines who smashed the ball home.

The Wings did have a penalty appeal turned down 5 minutes later when Danny Kedwell appeared to have been pushed inside the box but the referee waved play on.

Nevertheless, Histon well and truly put the game out of Welling's reach taking a 4-1 lead on 75 minutes. Adrian Cambridge's side footed shot took a lucky deflection off Leon Solomon past Turner in the Wings goal.

Andrew Sam went close with a chip shot and Danny Kedwell headed over from close range before the Wings made it 4-2.

Welling scored a consolation goal on the stroke of full time when Day's free-kick was headed in by Vines to score his second of the evening.

Welling entertain 13th place Yeading on Saturday at Park View Road.

Come on you Wings!
