With Rob Owen missing due to illness and Matt Bodkin not fit enough to start, Keith Rowland and Steve Perkins were selected in their place.
The Wings got off to a flying start 1 minute into the game, with a superb Che Stadhart goal. An Adrian Clarke corner was nodded on by Danny Kedwell into the path of Keith Rowland who headed the ball onto the bar, the ball then fell to Che Stadhart who volleyed home from close range.
Only 5 minutes later and the home side should have doubled their lead when the Histon defence failed to clear a leftwing cross from Clarke, which fell to Kedwell who fired the ball just wide of the post.
Disappointingly, this promising start from Welling soon petered out and it was the visiting side that dominated the rest of the game. Rob Nightingale was unlucky not to have drawn Histon level when he rose above Leon Solomon to head just wide of the far post. Two excellent chances for Neil Kennedy went begging and somehow the Wings went into the break with the lead.
The second half saw little improvement from Welling as Histon continued to dominate in the final third of the pitch. However, it wasn't until the 72nd minute that Histon scored a deserved equaliser. Adrian Cambridge rose above both James Pinnock and Chris Moore to head home a Histon corner at the far post.
Danny Kedwell should have restored Welling's lead but the Wings hitman fired his shot over the bar.
The Wings missed an opportunity to move back into the top 5 but the draw still keeps them in good contention for a playoff place. Welling travel to Hayes on Saturday and Adrian Pennock's side will be looking for their first league away win since late October.
Come on you Wings!
