Wings Boss Adrian Pennock was looking to extend his side's 4 league game unbeaten run with a result at Hayes on Saturday. Pennock made just the one change from the side that won midweek in the FA Cup against Folkestone with Matt Bodkin replacing Martin Carthy in midfield.

A quiet first 20 minutes saw a lengthy stoppage and an early substitution for Welling. Steve Perkins came on for Leon Solomon who hobbled off with a knee injury. The first real effort on goal came from Josh Scott when Jamie Turner comfortably saved his shot from the edge of the area.

Welling's first opportunity on goal came on 25 minutes when Jamie Day's well-struck drive was deflected wide for a corner by Orlando Jeffrey. However, Welling did not have to wait long to take the lead. In a similar position to Day's chance minutes earlier, Danny Kedwell hit a low shot beyond Kevin Davies into the bottom corner.

The Wings went agonisingly close to doubling their lead 5 minutes before the break. Day's corner found an unmarked John Guest who had all the time in the world to pick his spot but the defender headed over.

11 minutes of stoppage time saw Liam Feeney's free-kick saved by Turner but the Wings went into halftime 1-0 up.

The Wings had to ride their luck at the beginning of the second half and only managed to retain the lead due to some excellent goalkeeping from Jamie Turner. An acrobatic scissor kick from Jon Dyer was saved by Turner followed by another brilliant instinctive save denying Dyer at point-blank range.

Che Stadhart should have scored his second league goal just after the hour mark. A superb Matt Bodkin run allowed the midfielder to cross for Stadhart who slide the ball just inches wide.

Bodkin's fierce volley was parried away by Davies before Welling managed to hold on to the victory and move into the playoff positions.

Next Saturday Welling travel to AFC Hornchurch in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.

Come on you Wings!
