Wing's Boss Adrian Pennock made three changes to the team that drew with Histon on Tuesday. John Guest returned to the side in replace of injured Barry Ashby, Matt Bodkin and Rob Owen were brought in for Keith Rowland and Steve Perkins.

Welling were quick out of the blocks, taking the lead after only 8 minutes. A Jamie Day right-wing corner was headed on by Chris Moore, which fell to Bodkin at the far post who smashed the ball home past Hayes keeper Kevin Davies.

However, the lead would be short-lived when Hayes were awarded a penalty on 10 minutes. The goal scorer Matt Bodkin bundled over Missioners midfielder Shaun McAuley in the box, and Kieran Knight stepped up to draw the home side level.

Welling were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Che Stadhart was brought down just five minutes later. Nevertheless, the Wings continued to attack and were eventually rewarded for their hard work.

A Jamie Day free-kick was just headed over by Danny Kedwell, 5 minutes later another Day free-kick restored Welling's lead.

Stadhart was brought down on the edge of the box, which allowed Day to hit a stunning free-kick into the top corner of the net.

The second half saw the Wings continue to dominate, creating an abundance of chances and it was only a matter of time before they added to their two-goal tally.

A Lee Gledhill throw-in was hit just wide of the post before the Welling hitman scored his 17th of the season. Fellow striker Stadhart took the ball to the by-line before pulling the ball back for Kedwell who fired the ball through the legs of Missioners keeper Davies.

Hayes should have pulled one back when a through pass from Jeff Goulding was picked up by Knight who was one on one with Wings keeper Jamie Turner. Fortunately for Welling, the Missioners striker dragged his shot wide.

In the closing minutes there were further chances for Steve Perkins and Danny Kedwell however, the game finished 3-1 and a good solid victory for the Wings.

The Wings now face a tough away trip to promotion hopefuls Farnborough Town on Tuesday. A victory at Farnborough could prove to be the defining point in Welling United's season.

Come on you Wings!
