Welling United were looking to repeat last seasons exciting FA Cup run starting at Folkestone Invicta on Saturday. The Wings fielded an unchanged side, with the same team that won 3-1 away at Basingstoke Town last weekend.

Adrian Pennock's men could have gone in front as early as the second minute when Jamie Day's free-kick was headed just inches wide by Ben Lewis. However, Folkestone themselves went close to taking the lead 20 minutes later when a corner was fired just over by former Wings striker Paul Jones.

Set pieces provided the best opportunities for the Wings and it was no surprise when Welling's lead came from one. Day's free-kick was meet by Chris Moore who beat his marker to head the ball into the back of the net.

The lead would be short-lived however as some lacklustre defending allowed Invicta to draw level. A long throw from Kevin Watson failed to be cleared by the Wings defence allowing Jones to nod the ball down for Ellis Remy who smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar.

It was a similar affair after the restart with the Ryman League side having the better of the play. The Wings have Jamie Turner to thank for keeping the score at 1-1 as the keeper made some excellent saves to deny the homeside. Steve Norman saw his shot parried out for a corner before Adam Flanagan saw his header pushed over.

Ellis Remy should have scored his second of the game on 58 minutes but the young striker fired just inches over from the edge of the box.

On 75 minutes Welling's first chance of the second half fell to Martin Carthy but the midfielder couldn't get enough on his shot from Ellis Green's cross. Wings top scorer Danny Kedwell went agonisingly close to winning the game for the visitors a minute from time. Substitute Ronayne Benjamin's cross found an unmarked Kedwell but the striker volleyed the ball over.

The replay takes place on Tuesday as Welling hope to move into the next round of the FA Cup.

Come on you Wings!
