Goalkeeper Paul Hyde was a late addition to the starting 11 when Jamie Turner was injured during the pre-match warm up. The extent of his injury is not yet known.
Steve Harper saw his header fly over the bar on three minutes before the Wings took an early lead six minutes later. Excellent work from Danny Kedwell allowed the striker to cross for Harper who headed down for Che Stadhart who finished the well-worked goal.
However, Fisher should have equalised just minutes later. Leroy Griffiths was allowed a free header just yards out but the former Grays man fired straight at Paul Hyde.
A mazy run from Ellis Green almost doubled the Wings lead on 25 minutes. Green was allowed to cross for Stadhart at the far post but the striker couldn't quite reach the ball.
Soon after and Steve Perkins was lucky to have stayed on the pitch when the defender fouled Griffiths just outside the box. Perkins was shown a yellow card and the resulting free-kick was driven just inches wide by Ahmed Deen.
Paul Hyde was forced into making a superb save on the half hour mark. Anton Robinson struck a low shot from the edge of the area, which the Wings keeper at full stretch just managed to tip the ball round the post.
Into the second period and the Wings were dealt another injury blow. Danny Kedwell was stretchered off just 15 minutes after the restart. The striker had to have six stitches in his leg and is expected to return at the latest in time for the FA Trophy fixture on 13th January.
Des Boateng went close to scoring his third of the season on 63 minutes. The midfielder latched onto Tony Battersby's through pass but Boateng saw his shot pushed wide.
The Wings finally added a second to their lead 8 minutes from time. Lawrie Wilson's free-kick was met by the head of Tony Battersby who headed into the back of the net.
Keeper Hyde made another fine save towards the end but Welling held on for the deserved victory.
Welling travel to Braintree Town on Saturday hoping of a repeat of the result earlier in the season at Park View Road where the Wings won 4-1.
