Welling's playoff hopes took a further blow on Tuesday evening when a customary late goal from the opposition saw the Wings go home with nothing.
On another bitterly cold night the first half was one of few chances with neither side taking a foothold in the game. It took 20 minutes for the Wings to create just a half chance when a Danny Kedwell knock on was fired over the bar by James Pinnock.
Farnborough could only mange mediocre long shots and high balls as the home side found it difficult to break the Wings defence down.
Welling's best chances of the first period came towards the end of the half. On 40 minutes a superb Matt Bodkin cross, would see the Boro ' keeper fail to collect the ball but both Martin Carthy and James Pinnock jumped for the loose ball and the deflected effort was comfortably cleared off the line.
Just before the break a Jamie Day corner was nodded on by Rob Owen for Chris Moore who unmarked at the near post somehow headed the ball over the bar.
The second half would see little improvement with both sides looking happy to settle for a point.
10 minutes in and Danny Kedwell ran past 3 Boro ' defenders before shooting straight at Kevin Scriven.
However, these lack of opportunities for the Wings would come back to haunt them when Farnborough won the match 5 minutes from time.
Wings defender Leon Solomon conceded an unnecessary free kick on the right hand side inches from the corner flag. The free kick managed to elude all the 11 Wings players who were defending extremely deep and the ball fell to Warren McBean who poked it home from close range.
The Wings did have a fantastic opportunity to draw level and salvage something from the game. A wonderful solo run from Bodkin saw the midfielder weave in and out before unleashing a low drive with the Boro ' keeper only managing to parry the shot into the path of Steve Perkins and Rob Owen.
However, in the confusion the two players couldn't make up their minds who would slot the ball home and with the Farnborough defenders closing fast Perkins could only manage to quickly smash the ball over.
Come on you Wings!
