After the disappointment of the midweek defeat to Carshalton Wings Boss Adrian Pennock made two changes to the starting line-up. Chris Moore replaced new signing John Guest and Adrian Clarke returned in place of Keith Rowland.

Both sides were slow to settle and it took 22 minutes before any real chance at goal. A right-footed shot from Matt Bodkin on the edge of the area forced Eastleigh keeper Wayne Shaw into an excellent save.

Two minutes later and the Wings took a deserved lead through Danny Kedwell. Rob Owen headed a near post corner from Jamie Day straight into the path of Kedwell who fired the ball home.

The Wings were unlucky not to double their lead before the break after two great chances were again well saved by Spitfires' keeper Shaw. A high ball from Day allowed Che Stadhart to turn and shoot in the penalty area but Shaw managed to save the effort with his legs.

Five minutes before the break and again Spitfires' keeper Shaw was called into action. A long ball from Lee Gledhill fell to Matt Bodkin who nodded the ball down before hitting a fierce left foot shot however, Shaw managed to push the ball wide for a throw.

After a bright first half for the Wings it was the visiting side that returned rejuvenated and subsequently drew level. Just after the hour mark some poor defending from the Wings allowed David Town to slot home an Eastleigh knock on past Jamie Turner in the Welling goal.

Eastleigh were reduced to ten men on 78 minutes when a high long ball from Chris Moore fell to Che Stadhart who looked certain to be through on goal before Sam Stannard brought down the Wings striker on the edge of the box. This came just at the right time for the home side as it was the Spitfires who looked most likely to take all three points. The resulting free kick was fired just over the crossbar by substitute Keith Rowland.

Nevertheless, Eastleigh continued to attack when Nick Stavroulakis volleyed Jack Smith's cross, which was well saved by Turner.

After a battling display from Eastleigh, their hard work was eventually undone when Welling were awarded a penalty. Lee Gledhill's rightwing cross-seemed to be blocked by the arms of David Hughes and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Danny Kedwell stepped up to smash the ball home past Shaw and give the Wings the lead.

A late run from Bodkin allowed the midfielder to cross the ball for Stadhart whose shot took a deflection off Adam Roberts, forcing Shaw into a magnificent save as he tipped the ball over the bar.

A vital win for Welling, which sees them continue their hunt for the playoffs. Another crucial match on Tuesday evening when the Wings entertain Histon at Park View Road.

Come on you Wings!
