Pennock made two changes to the side that lost to Yeading on Saturday. Lee Gledhill and Daniel Moore replaced Lew Watts and Matt Carruthers.
However, it was a less than perfect start for the Wings as Eastbourne took the lead just eight minutes into the game. Chris Moore an experienced central defender made a rare misjudgement of a high forward pass, which Moore left to allow Scott Ramsay to take the ball past Jamie Turner and slot home. With the home side already in front within 10 minutes of the kick-off it looked like Yeading all over again.
From the restart Eastbourne again started to dominate having numerous efforts saved or blocked by Turner and his back four. The Wings did have large amounts of possession but the Borough easily broke down the attacks . The Borough was playing some great passing football, which was cutting the Wings defence in half. Matt Smart also went close for the Borough after some nice linkup play with the scorer Scott Ramsay that allowed Smart to get a decent effort on goal.
Near the closing minutes of the first half the Wings started to put the Borough under some much-needed pressure. The Wings won numerous corners but quality of the delivery was lacking and the Wings went into the break one down.
Second half was a much different affair and a complete turn around from the Wings.
Two minutes into the second half and Welling could have had a penalty, a resulting Wings cross was charged down by Pinnock and two Borough defenders. The two Borough defenders handled the ball inside the area as it the ball bounced up but luckily for Eastbourne the decision to award a penalty was not given, much to the annoyance of the travelling support.
With the Wings in pretty much total control Eastbourne had to resort to counterattacks but the Wings defence stood its ground unlike the first 45 minutes.
Two Jamie Day strikes were brilliantly saved by the Borough number 1 Lee Hook. The introduction of Matt Carruthers for the Wings gave the away side a much-needed injection of quality. Only 4 minutes after Carruthers coming off the bench the Wings were back on level terms. However, it was a Jamie Day free-kick that allowed Rob Owen to nod the ball home from close range. The Wings were deservedly back in the game and continued to attack pressing for the winner.
James Pinnock went close right at the death after a right wing cross was backhealed by Pinnock. But Hook again brilliantly denied Pinnock's effort on goal.
The game ended all square at one a piece, a fair result considering the mediocre performance from the Wings in the first half. Welling must now concentrate on Saturday's early kick-off with Dorchester and focus on getting back to winning ways.
