The Wings fielded an unchanged side from that which won 5-0 against Bedford last weekend.
In front of their biggest crowd this season the homeside got off to the worst possible start when they went behind after just 4 minutes. After a fine save from Jamie Turner the resulting corner was swung into the far post where Billy Clark smashed home unmarked.
The Wings created very few chances against a well-organised Clevedon. Steve Perkins hit his volley over on 9 minutes before Che Stadhart's attempted lob was the closet Welling came to scoring.
Nevertheless, it was the visitors that looked more dangerous on the attack. A Clevedon free-kick was sent into the box and headed down for Jack Pitcher who fired inches wide.
The Seasiders didn't have to wait long for a second when they were awarded a penalty on 14 minutes. Pitcher was brought down by the onrushing Turner inside the area and Leon Hapgood stepped up to slot the ball into the back of the net.
Clevedon continued to press, causing the Wings defence all sorts of problems. The Seasiders were even allowed enough time to fire an overhead kick just over the bar.
The second half saw Clevedon rightly camped in their own half with the Wings in total control of possession. However, the Seasiders were more than a match for their Conference South opponents.
Chances for Matt Bodkin and Danny Kedwell were easily saved by keeper Danny Greaves, who had very little to do all game. Welling should have pulled one back on the hour mark, when Kedwell's cutback for Stadhart caught the goalkeeper out of position. However, even faced with an open goal the striker poked the ball wide.
Five minutes later and again Stadhart missed a great opportunity to get the Wings back into the game. Ronayne Benjamin's low cross-found Stadhart but the striker couldn't direct his shot goalwards from just yards out.
Clevedon confirmed their passage into the First Round Proper on 77 minutes. A clearance from Billy Clark was miss-hit by Jamie Turner towards Benjamin, which allowed Mitchell Page to pick up the loose ball and slot into an empty net.
Welling travel to Havant and Waterlooville next Saturday hoping to pick themselves up following Saturday's disappointment with a win against the Hawks.
Come on you Wings!
