Adrian Pennock made only one change to the side that drew with Cambridge last Saturday, as Chris Moore replaced Matt Lee.

After only 11 minutes, Welling's first clear chance saw them open up the scoring when Chris Moore headed a corner onto the bar, which then fell to Steve Perkins to nod home from close range. Minutes later and the Wings could have been two up when Pinnock turned in the 18-yard area and shot just wide.

After a lively 20 minutes, the match slowed down and became a very physical affair, which resulted in James Pinnock being taken off with an injury after clashing with Carshalton keeper Stuart Searle. Stadhart was brought on to replace him.

With the match turning in to a scrappy affair both teams played a poor passing game which was made even more unattractive by some late challenges from the visiting side. This took it's toll with another injury minutes before the interval when Steve Perkins also had to go off to be replaced by Mark Green.

The second half continued as the first half ended with both teams looking jaded and with poor passing dominating the match. However, against the run of play Carshalton nearly equalised when they caught Welling on the break only to be thwarted by the increasingly impressive Leon Solomon.

A sending off was always a possibility in this match and it came when the Robins' last man Colin Hartburn brought down Adrian Clarke just outside the penalty area which left the referee no option but to show the red card.

The Wings looked for openings against 10 men Carshalton and with ten minutes remaining, they broke through only for Robins' keeper Stuart Searle to bring down Danny Kedwell inside the area leaving the referee a clear decision to award a penalty. Kedwell stepped up and slotted the ball past Searle, sending him the wrong way.

With the match finishing 2-0 to the Wings, three more points were secured and although this was not the best performance we have seen at Park View Road this season the win maintains an impressive run, and for the first time this season (and for many previous seasons!) the club now sits third in the league.

However, it was not all good news for Adrian Pennock, given that due to injuries in this match he may have lost two key players for this Saturday's massive FA cup game against Dorchester.
